With over 20 years’ proven track record in international executive search and 10 years working in the energy & transport sectors, Simon leads the Energy & Industrial Practice. He focuses on Senior Executive and Board appointments in energy, transport & capital equipment. He also has a specialism in the Nordic markets. Simon’s depth of experience and pragmatic approach has resulted in a strong reputation for successful assignment delivery and giving clients prudent advice.

My story

I started life as a Wellsite Geologist working offshore in the Middle East and the North Sea. You learn very quickly how to be independent as there is no back up. Though I enjoyed the travel and time off, I quickly realised I was more interested in business and after 3 years joined a small oil and gas M&A boutique. This led to an MBA and working for 2 multinationals, including a stint in Norway and focusing on Asian markets before moving into executive search in 1995. I have worked for two other international search firms before joining Savannah in 2018.

My focus

My area of specialism mirrors the markets I have previously worked in: Energy, Infrastructure and Capital Equipment. I’m a great believer unless you have worked in industry and witnessed the pressures first hand, you don’t really understand it. Therefore, my past career gives me strong empathy with the markets, clients and candidates alike.

My motivation

People will remain the most important assets in an organisation. We live in a more transparent and complex world which is changing at a faster pace and traditional sector boundaries are disappearing with the impact of evolving technology. Therefore, the need for increased organisational agility, communication and associated individual capability has never been greater. This is what drives me to secure the best people possible.

My career has been highly international, and this is reflected in the work I undertake across OECD countries and emerging markets, recruiting both expats and local talent. I’m not restricted by geography and to really understand markets you need a holistic perspective. The days of having a network of international recruitment offices is almost superfluous.

There’s nothing better than tracking a candidate’s progress and witnessing them making a significant difference to a business. At the end of the day, it’s all about what value can people bring to an organisation against a backdrop that few businesses ‘shrink to greatness’.
